Bridge Inspection Team Leader

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs onsite visual bridge inspections according to National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) or Specifications for the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI) State Bridge Inspection and associated Quality Control – Quality Assurance (QC/QA) requirements, FHWA inspection schedule, and Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) procedures.
- Completes inspection reports, including field observations, photographs, and measurements.
- Enters inspection report data into the ODOT Bridge Management System (BrM).
- Drafts maintenance recommendations for bridges with issues, as necessary.
- Prepares and delivers bridge inspection submittal to appropriate county or municipality and ODOT, including reports, CDs, and maps.
- Attends and participates in annual ODOT and internal QC/QA training.
- Coordinates bridge inspection activities with the ODOT Field District County Bridge Engineer, County and/or City government agencies, Circuit Engineering Districts, and railroad and/or utility companies as required for inspections.
- Performs limited personnel functions, including performance management feedback, mentoring, employee development, and reinforcing a positive work environment. Plans and schedules work for team members, ensuring the appropriate and effective distribution of assignments, labor, and equipment for efficient performance of duties. Reviews and approves timesheets and time off requests for accuracy and completeness.
- Adheres to corporate policies and procedures, Practice and Department procedures, and ensures consistent application and team member compliance.
- Develops, fosters, and maintains client relationships.
- Collaborates with Department, Marketing, and Business Development staff to respond to new business opportunities, including engaging in preparation of proposals, interviews, and presentations.
- Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED). Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent in engineering studies from two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Successful completion of two-week comprehensive FHWA training course based on the Bridge Inspector’s Training Manual and QC/QA training as required by ODOT.
- Minimum five years’ experience in bridge inspection assignments in responsible capacity.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics. ODOT BrM familiarity preferred.
- English language skills: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other team members of the organization.
- Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Organizational skills: ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, frequently over uneven surfaces.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain, climb over or crawl under obstacles.
- Ability to occasionally sit in vehicle more than four hours.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and using hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Ability to sit and manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
- Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to judge distances and form spatial relationships.
- Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is primarily outdoors, including performing strenuous physical activity and exposure to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
- Office work is in well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation and moderate noise.
- Requires use of protective and/or safety equipment.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Fixed schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexible schedule may be required while traveling or during summer months.
- Occasional extended workdays up to 12 hours.
- Occasional overnight travel required.
This position includes safety-sensitive job functions, and random screenings will be conducted in accordance with CEC’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
