CEC is seeking a senior level established Civil/Structural Engineer with specialization in bridge and transportation projects to help grow our Transportation Practice. This position will directly support CEC’s mission to eliminate aging infrastructure and drive community growth by delivering quality solutions, design, and service to its clients. CEC’s Transportation team has a long history of state and local agency transportation services consisting of technical expertise from our Oklahoma offices and emerging offices in Texas and Arkansas. 

Lead and manage design, analysis, and plan production for bridge and related transportation structures associated with our clients’ transportation needs. Facilitate collaboration on technical and management challenges to develop solutions that are sound and verified through team cooperation and experiences. Assist the Transportation Practice leadership with business development activities, client relationship building, and project delivery as needed. Foster a collaborative environment to provide ample opportunities for learning, growth and career path alternatives in design, management, and leadership for staff with less experience.

The selected candidate is expected to have eight or more years of experience in the transportation industry including structural engineering experience relating to the design and maintenance of bridges, culverts, and retaining walls for transportation projects. This position also requires experience in construction document preparation and project management. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve with autonomy for project-related tasks and as a designated client contact. May have project management responsibilities on multiple projects, particularly those with high complexity and/or risk. Responsible for successful completion of projects, including schedule, budget, and profitability.
  • Develops estimates, pricing, scoping, and marketing strategies for proposed projects.
  • Develops feasible engineering design alternatives to meet project requirements. Prepares or directs preparation of structural calculations, modeling, analysis, and design.
  • Utilizes or oversees use of computer software to create or assist in the creation of detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts, including, but not limited to, plan and profile views, cross sections, details, and schedules, for the construction of bridge components, such as decks, steel and concrete beams, bearings, piers, abutments, and foundations or buildings.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of contract documents, including technical reports, studies, plan specifications, construction cost estimates, and permitting for projects.
  • Performs field visits to inspect existing structures and identify necessary repairs.
  • Reviews and redlines production plans for revisions.
  • Directs and provides training, technical support, guidance, input, and mentoring to project teams.
  • Participates in and ensures QC/QA procedures are followed. Maintains accurate design standards and procedures in assigned work.
  • Reviews shop drawings and responds to RFIs.
  • Responsible for work-in-progress, ensures accurate client billings, and monitors outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on assigned projects.
  • Develops, fosters, and maintains client relationships. Pursues repeat or follow-up work with current clients. Collaborates with Marketing and Business Development staff to respond to new business opportunities, including engaging in preparation of proposals, interviews, and presentations.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited university; Master’s degree (M.S.) with emphasis in structural engineering is preferred.
  • Eight or more years of progressive experience in structural bridge engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) license required. If not licensed in Oklahoma, Texas, and/or Arkansas, must be able to obtain licenses within six months of start date.
  • Project experience with Oklahoma DOT, Texas DOT and/or Arkansas DOT preferred. 
  • Experience in structural detailing in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software preferred.
  • Experience with structural design software such as Bentley OpenBridge and MDX preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Organizational skills:  attention to detail; ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • English language skills:  ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Mathematical skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature. 
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to sit up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk, including over uneven surfaces, for extended periods of time (field visits).
  • Ability to manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, dirt, weather conditions (field visits).

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Fixed schedule of 40 hours per week between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Occasional extended hours required as projects dictate.
  • Eligible to submit application for telecommuting after 90 days.
